FRussia, France hiding mistletoe around his house and Russia getting caught underneathHe was starting to become very familiar with this plant: little green stems, only somewhat-bigger leaves on the very ends. It looked a bit silly, actually. Well — it was a bit silly. Or a lot silly.
“If you want to kiss me,” Ivan had protested after the second time he’d gotten caught under a hanging sprig, “why don’t you just ask?”
Francis had just said something like “that’s no fun,” which was a typical Francis answer because it sounded like an explanation when it really, really wasn’t, and so Ivan decided he would just start avoiding anywhere that had mistletoe hanging above it.
It was hard, when Francis started trying to push him towards doorways, or hang them in complicated places. It was some sort of ridiculous game with Francis. Once there was mistletoe hanging from on top of the bathroom doorway after he’d taken a shower and so, well, Ivan did the only logical thing and climbed out the window.
It wasn’t that he didn’t like the kissing! He did, a lot, he just…
Mm.
They were sitting reading one day — kiss-free, so far! — Ivan with a book of Russian poetry and Francis with a sheaf of recipes he’d printed out using his work’s paper and ink. Francis leaned close, and slowly closer. When they were shoulder-to-shoulder, Ivan turned and pressed their lips together, fond.
That was it. Ah. It was better when it just happened.
