The Shambles

The oldest street in York is mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 and In the late 19th century was known for its number of butchers. The meat would hang in the shadows of the overhanging buildings away from the sun. Taken early evening when the crowds had disappeared, a rain shower had passed over and the sky was illuminated by the afterglow from the sun.
