so yeah I think when I’m in the shower and I was thinking about many instances where I’ve seen “you’re just looking for attention” used as a pretty strong insult and I want everybody to just sit for a second and think about that
think about how wanting other people to acknowledge you has become an awful thing
and think about how humans on a whole are social in nature—obviously some more so than others, but even the most antisocial kids in school tend to have a tiny group or maybe even one person that they can confide in
now how much sense does that make
and especially in a situation where your feelings involve “I feel really worthless” or “I want to die”
those people are exactly the people who should be seeking attention because they need it, but now they’re all scared to do anything because they don’t want to be labeled an “attention seeker” or “attention whore”
now I don’t know about you but I’d rather hear “sometimes I want to kill myself” from someone who isn’t so lost as to go through with it and help them get away from it than to feel proud about calling someone on their suicide bluff only to have them go through with it weeks later because wow everyone’s calling them an attention seeker everyone hates them there’s no point to life anymore to this person
this post is getting away from me but basically I’m kind of disgusted that the internet culture has turned looking for attention into such an awful thing to be ashamed of
