The less time you have to draw something, the less detail you can put down.
So, instead you want to put down as much information about the pose as you can with as few lines as possible!
This is called finding the gesture - the essence of the pose. Forget about form, forget about contour, gesture is about the feeling and the motion!
It’s the first stage to any drawing, it helps to have a general idea of what you want to draw down on the page before you jump into the details.
When working from life, the image of what you want to draw is already in front of you. So before you draw anything, take some time to look at what you are going to draw.
Look for the motion, the lines that travel through the body.
Once you’ve found the motion, you can then draw it.
This is the gesture - it does not yet look like a person because there is no form or contour, but it should still give you a sense of the pose and its motion!
You can then build the forms on top of the gesture.
It’s essentially like drawing stick-men, as you’re drawing lines rather than contours.
Those are gestures I spent a couple minutes on to make them look nicer lmao, but this stage is really quick - this one took about thirty seconds
Also a lil tip: When drawing the gesture, you want to use long continuous strokes.
You’re trying to convey as much as you can in one line, because you’re only spending a couple seconds on it! The more you can draw with one stroke, the quicker it’ll be done.
In a life drawing session, you’ll generally be given a minute to two minutes to spend drawing before the model changes pose.
Most of this time you should spend looking for that motion rather than drawing. If you have a minute to draw the pose, spend thirty seconds studying the model!
If you jump right into the drawing, you’ll actually take longer because you don’t know what you’re drawing.
okay listen, nekoma is going to nationals. y’all need to calm the heck down. tokyo’s finalists get to go to nationals, yes. so you’d think:
oh no nekoma lost so they aren’t going to go to nationals and they can’t do the battle of the trash heap !! nooO!!! furudate u suck!! WRONG.
because tokyo is the host they get three representatives. the losers of the semi finals play against each other for the third spot.
and the losers are nekoma and most likely the snake team. i mean WHY ELSE would furudate set up that whole seen between kuroo and their captain. they had to play at some point. but it wouldn’t be realistic for nekoma to win against fukurodani. so of course they lost.
but don’t worry they’re probably going to play the snake team an struggle their way to getting that third spot. it’s going to happen. it’s just how sports anime works. stop freaking out people.
Erika (@theconfusedartist) and I did a cute little KageHina photoshoot last time I was muddling around Toronto! Special thanks to Zandra and Maddy (@weerewolf-lassy) for running around with us, taking pictures, holding equipment, fixing wigs, and generally being wonderful.

literally every other body part/organ/cell: NEEHHHH
brain: oh m Y GOD
I hate it when people are like, “I’d draw more, but I suck”.
Guys.
Guys.
You’re always gonna suck at the beginning. I sucked, your favourite artist sucked, your Cool Artist Friend used to draw faux Disney paws when they started out.
Art isn’t easy. It’s actually pretty lame sometimes.
But if you don’t draw… If you hold yourself back? You’re never going to improve. Being self-depreciating in your work won’t help you, because if you don’t appreciate your effort, do you really expect others to?
Be confident. Open commissions, take trades, even if you’re fucking terrible. Someone will want your art, someone will want to help you grow, and you’ll gain experience by drawing things in ways you’ve never drawn before.
Please don’t believe that you can’t get there, or that people won’t appreciate gifts or fanart because you’re not Picasso. It sounds silly, but the heart of what you draw is what matters, the effort you put in, how hard you try to get better.
So don’t worry about it. Just relax, and draw. Draw people, draw furries, draw fuckloads of porn. It doesn’t matter.
Super Tuesday’s coming, and it’s looking like Bernie’s gonna lose most of those states. You know what could help (if you’re in one of those states)? Vote. Fucking vote. Instead of handwringing on the internet about how Hillary shouldn’t be winning and Bernie should, go and vote. Hillary has won the states she’s won because more people came out and voted for her.
It doesn’t matter if his favorability numbers are higher on polls, or if he fares better among undecided voters in some polls, because those polls aren’t votes. He could have 90% favorability and she could have 10% favorability, but if more people actually show up and vote for her, she’s still going to win.
So if you stay home to talk about it online instead of voting, don’t be surprised if things don’t go well.
